In the first semester, the incoming doctoral students are required to take the “SEMINÁRIO III” course (2 credits) in which they must submit a research proposal and defend it in a seminar. We advise those who are interested in applying for the doctoral program to keep previous conversations with possible supervisors.

For all doctoral students, it is mandatory to take the qualifying exam (1 credit) up to end of the 6th semester. To those who have taken the master’s degree, it is recommended forty-eight months as deadline for depositing the thesis. Comprobation of English proficiency for all students, and Portuguese for foreign students is required.

Students who have completed all requirements, are accredited to request their thesis defense. The doctoral thesis must report novel and original contributions to chemical knowledge and be defended to an evaluation committee composed of five members.
